This Sullivan’s Island home fronts on historic Middle Street and was originally a one story cottage. Over the years a second story was added as well as several poorly organized additions to the rear of the house. We assisted the owners by removing the additions and reorganizing the entire interior plan of the house. This created a front porch focus onto the street, but also opened the plan to the private rear yard. While the house was historic, most of the alterations made over the years had compromised the historic details. We focused on the architectural details to make the house more suitable to its historic community and added color that complimented the personalities of the new homeowners. Due to the home being located in a FEMA flood zone, we had to raise the home to meet the flood requirements. This was buffered by additional landscaping. Details throughout the home compliment the exterior amendments to display a beautifully crafted historic home on the island.
